Migraine

Migraine is made up of a variation of neurological symptoms. A common symptom of migraine is an intense, throbbing pain on one side of the head, although it can sometimes be on both sides. Besides pain, migraine is often accompanied by nausea, sometimes vomiting, and sensitivity to light and sound. Some people may see spots or flashing lights or have disturbed vision.

Migraine can last a few hours or up to 72 hours. Some people experience migraine only once or twice a year, other people can get migraines once or twice a week. Chronic migraine can be debilitating and interfere considerably with your day to day quality of life.

How can hypnotherapy help with migraine?

It is thought that low serotonin levels in the brain lead to the dilation and swelling of the blood vessels which cause migraine pain.

Hypnotherapy can be effective in the treatment of chronic migraine by reducing stress and anxiety (common triggers for migraine) and increasing serotonin levels, the chemicals that regulate pain and help you to cope with life’s stresses.

Hypnotherapy and the use of hypnosis offer help where medication and alternative treatments have failed. Through hypnosis a person suffering from chronic pain is taught to alter the brain’s perception of the pain message, to turn down the intensity and to produce its own internal medication.
