Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some of the questions that are commonly asked about hypnotherapy and hypnosis. Call Carolyn on 07514 931 096 if you would like to ask any other questions.
How will I feel during hypnosis?
Hypnosis is totally natural and something very normal. It is an extremely pleasant state of relaxation, similar to day dreaming. You remain awake and totally in control at all times.
Is hypnotherapy online as effective as in-person?
Yes. Hypnotherapy is just as effective online as in-person. Many clients comment on how nice it is to have the sessions in the comfort of their own home.
Will I lose consciousness whilst in hypnosis?
No. During hypnosis the client is always fully aware and in control of everything that happens.
Are there any dangers?
None. You will be in a safe environment and will simply be relaxed.
Can you get 'stuck' in hypnosis?
No. Hypnosis is a very relaxed and comfortable state, so sometimes a client might be a little reluctant to leave this pleasant state. They might need to be gently encouraged to open their eyes and come back to full alertness. If the therapist were to leave the room whilst a client was in the hypnotic state the person would naturally return to full wakeful awareness or simply drift off to sleep.
Can anyone be hypnotised?
Most people can go into at least a light hypnotic trance which is sufficient for most hypnotherapeutic goals. Therefore the majority of people can benefit from hypnotherapy to some extent.
Will I remember what happened during hypnosis?
You will remember most things but not everything. However, this is the way the memory normally works. For example, when you listen to a speech you don’t remember everything that has been said, but you may recall the majority of it. The same applies with hypnosis.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions required varies from person to person and will depend on your needs and preferences. My goal is to work with you for the shortest time necessary for you to achieve the changes you want to make.
As a general guide, the number of sessions may range from 4 for a specific fear or phobia, 6 – 10 sessions for generalised anxiety and 8 – 12 sessions for clinical depression.
How long is each session?
For Solution Focused Hypnotherapy the initial consultation is one hour in length. Each session thereafter is approximately one hour. Stop smoking therapy, on the other hand, does not require an initial consultation and is a one-off session of two hours.
